The Man, The Music, The Ministry |
The Houston Chapter of the Edwin Hawkins & Walter Hawkins Love Fellowship Conference is proud to announce a Musical Tribute to the Late Bishop Walter Hawkins, The Man…The Music…The Ministry, on February 20, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. The city-wide event will be hosted by New Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Rev. Harold Berry, Pastor, located at 4301 Weaver Road, Houston, Texas 77016-5634.
We would love to have you come and share in his memory as we pay tribute to his life & music ministry. Knowing your love for gospel music, we also invite you to register your choir or soloists to perform some of the musical greats penned by Bishop Hawkins, reminding us of his musical contributions to the gospel music genre/fellowship.
Bishop Hawkins relished being a pastor as much as he enjoyed singing. More so, we celebrate his genuine love for the people God entrusted to him, regardless of the state they were in. God gifted him with the ability to correctly analyze and skillfully teach the Word of God with profound insight and revelation. His powerful teaching gift attracted the attention of the scholarly community and earned him an invitation to become a visiting Professor of the Berkley Religious School of the Pacific.
In 1970, Bishop Hawkins established the Love Center Church in Oakland, California. He was notably recognized for his Love Center Choir that had considerable success with their “Love Alive” series of recordings, which sold well over a million copies from the 1970s through the 1990s. “Love Alive IV, released in 1990, was #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album charts, where it stayed for 33 weeks. In all, Walter Hawkins produced and /or collaborated on 116 his songs that were listed on the Billboard Gospel Music Charts. The numerous accomplishments and projects go on and on.
I pray that you will be able to join us. If you need additional information, please call me at 832-723-9802 or email me at kwilson711@prodigy.net.
